WCG Ireland 2007 - Sunday, July 15 2007

The World Cyber Games series is returning this year, and so are Ireland! After some choke last year in the qualifier for Monza, Wink will be looking for some retribution. Once again it will be taking place in the 'Digital Hub' in Dublin, however this year there will be a €15 admission price. Not too steep considering the event is not taking place in our own backyard this year, but completely opposite us in Seattle, USA. That's a distance of 7289.53 km, compared to last year in Monza, Italy which was a meager 1473.23 km in comparison.
Wink's preliminary team for the event this year is:

Sam 'Samurai' Coogan (Team dAwG~~~~~~!)This is a reformation of 4/5ths of the strongest Wink team, so fingers crossed because we're all getting too old for this lark.
I said last year, "On can only hope that this reignition of the gaming culture in Ireland leads to something more than finishing last at the WCG," so the hope for this year is much in the same vein.
Here's how the Irish representative for Counter-Strike got on last year in Monza:

Redemption : Opencup Spring 2007 - Friday, April 6 2007
Unfortunately last night we were knocked out of the Eurocup. But all is not lost! We are now competing in the Opencup Premier Division, and while not as prestigious there are still some pretty good prizes at stake, aswell as coveted direct invite spots to Eurocup XVI. Our games start next week, April 10th on dust2 against the Israeli side Elementals. More details on HLTV will follow.

Eurocup XV Qualifer - Monday, April 2 2007
Last night, Sunday 1st, the invites and qualifiers for the EC XV were announced. Wink have to play through the preliminary qualifier matches. Our first game is against 
Dignitas and the match will be played this week, Wednesday the 4th of April. The winner of this game will go on to play a final round of qualifiers in a bid to gain a place in this years CS 1.6 Eurocup. Click 'Read More' for further information.

As some of you know already Wink are back for another hurrah. It would appear with every iteration we become less Irish, though we've still never come close to our original success back when in 2005 when we were formed. WCG Ireland - Saturday, August 5 2006
On the 3rd of August in somewhat of a bizarre move an Irish WCG qualifier was announced. Great news in the fact it may push a regeneration of the Irish Gaming scene which, for CS at least, has been in complete disrepair since the departure of many of it's great players and had pretty much descended into open bickering between all factions.
One can only hope that this reignition of the gaming culture in Ireland leads to something more than finishing last at the WCG.

Wink Inactice till further notice. - Tuesday, June 13 2006
Since IG2 wink have been inactive taking the chance to enjoy cs again and getting back to the grass roots of our cs heritage, bullshit, we cant be arsed. We'll be back at some stage during the coming months, just you watch.
Anyway, it has come to my attention that every defeat that wink has suffered has been caused by this friendly chap legsakimbo, AKA Lemonhead. please point and laugh because he reckons he's in a Boy band.

Wink & Kerpow's very own DotA Allstar, Caesar, has been nominated for clip of the week over at TheSGL. His clip of a 4 man beat down is taken from our first week's action on inferno against cZar. I'm typing this on a bored lunch break. Anywho as you know we are attending IG2 which is on 18th-19th Febuary in Bath, England! We have been seeded 5th with our Irish comrades discord seeded 9th.
Our group looks like this:
Wink (seeded 5th)
Domination Station (seeded 13th)
Pulse (seeded 20th)
Raised (seeded 28th)
We expect to qualify through our group quite easily despite the lack of the dynamic duo that is s'n'j.

Logicaly the 9th seed should be in the same group as the 8th seed not the first but I do however understand that we're smarter in Ireland and I would still think discord will finish either 1st or 2nd in their group quite easily, gl anyway chaps.
